hey guys, i jus got hold of a `95 M3. the problem is the car has got a 5 minute play on the steering like quarter-to, ten to. even when i switch lanes to over take i feel it it pulling me more to the right side. could this be tie rod ends or LCA`s. are there any alternative suspension parts or its agents only? i would welcome any approximate costs on these parts.
thanx

@ 328ii. thanks a lot man i can start with the tires because they are not good at all + alignment is out. i just thought i needed to start with rod ends first.
@ calypso. i will go for a quote at the nearest dealer soon. as for milleage, its 270K:hammerhead:
even with that milleage im enjoying it compared to my VTEC!

Please check it out carefully..... On mine, the rack had wear between the teeth, at the straight ahead position. Needed to replace the rack.

Oooo fok, well I hope alot has already been replaced, otherwise you pretty much have to change everything inside there.

@ 444YYY. if its the rack then i might have to rob the bank!
ZF (Johannesburg) have original reconditioned racks. They even have a fitment centre.
Even BMW sell you a reconditioned rack. They stopped making new racks for ours cars a long time ago ;)

Luckily though other E36 steering racks are the same as the one used on the M3-so no special M tax for it :)

They are interchangeable, but the M3 rack is different to the standard e36 rack. Its variable ratio, very slow in the middle and sharpens to the sides.
Its rubbish, and was never again used in any other M3 to my knowledge. The standard e36 rack is much better option, fixed ration and just over R3000 from ZF if i recall so very good value. If you can find a Z3 rack thats even better, (a little faster, also non variable), but they dont come around that often and ZF does not have. (even though they say they do, they just send a compatible e36 rack)
