E36 M3 Help- Over tightening

Decided to trace a very small oil leak, so removed the plenum from my car. Long story short, while putting things together I over tightened one of the nuts and it snapped because i over tightened it.

Anybody that can help?
or advise the best way forward

thanks

You will gain a lot of patience if you follow my instruction.

Where the stud is broken into the throttle body you will require a small drift/punch and hammer.
Get the center of the stud and tap it so that it leaves an indentation.

Get a drill bit which is 5mm in diameter and drill into the stud.
Use a very slow speed on the drill.

Once you have drilled all the way into the stud get an easy out and unscrew the wall of the stud.
Insert new stud.

Good Luck.
Those nut torque to 8Nm.

Any bolts or nuts that connect an Engine together are always meant to be Torque tightened. Never hand tightened. That's how you get oil leaks in the first place. 10nm is the factory spec.

Speak to Lysis or A1exander on the forum. They will be able to help.

That is why you shall need the punch and hammer.
You place the punch in the center of the stud.
Once it is centered you give it a smart tap with the hammer.
The indentation that the punch will make on the broken stud will be your drill bit guide.
Using a slow speed insures that the bit does not slip.
Use brand new drill bits.
An easy out is a bit with a helical cut which will bite into the remains of the stud.
As you screw it in it bites anti clockwise and it removes the wall.

a new stud can be gotten from JKM in Stryjdom Park or any bolt and nut specialist.
Push comes to shove you could use a long bolt and cut the head off.

If you have not done this exercise before and are unsure get a pro to do it for you in case you damage the throttle body which will require more work and expense.

If you guys dont come right let me know,
if you can remove the ITB i can get the stud out for you.
i have access to a spark-eroder to get the stud out and/or a cnc machine that will be able to machine that out and re-do the thread.

Update: Unfortunately due to work constraints i wasn't able to take the car to Alexander as he was way out in Sandton.

So dropped the car off on monday at Savspeed. Collected later the same afternoon.

Thanks to Alexander for his response to this thread and to Technician for the help offered  (Guys like you make this a great forum)
