E36 M3 3.0l Whining Diff

Hi guys,

Hope you can help or share some advice.

I sent my car in to my buddy's shop for new brakes, clutch, engine mountings, control arm bushes, vanos service, fuel filter, tappet cover gasket, all oil changes and more.....etc.

Everything is basically 100%.

My buddy drained the diff oil and during a road test, now it seems to have a whining noise.....no grinding or clunking, just a loud whine....
Before the diff oil was changed, I used to ever so often hear a slight whine at low speeds when making a tight turn.

Do you guys think that the old "sludge" in there helped to mask the noise and is more evident with the new

Any one know who is joburg is good at reconditioning the diffs on the E36 M3?

No! The whining come from ring and pinion ....

If its not set correctly, or if there was some wear due to usage, it will start whining!

The old oil with sediments dampened that whining noise... the new oil doesn't have the sediments anymore so now you can clearly hear it.

If you wanna get rid if the noise get some LSD additives from Liqui Moly and you should be fine

Thanks for that advice Rolf. If the ring and pinion is a bit worn, and we use Liqui Moly, do you reckon it will still work......obviously depends on the degree of wear
