e36 HID kits

Wello everypeeps!

I'm interested in getting the xenon HID kit for my e36 but I'm a little lost when it comes to what is all needed. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the matter.....( excuse the pun )

As far as I understand, the Xenon HID kit only replaces the bulbs used in the headlights correct? If I wanted to get angel eyes, these would have to be purchased separately? Is there a kit that has both the angel eyes and the Xenon bulbs in one package and if so, where can one buy them from and for how much?

Anyone have any experience with this stuff? Is it a relatively easy installation?

lights that have built in angel eyes are shit.

Euro/ZA OEM bosch e36 headlights are the best, you dont get better.

as far as I know, you could probably use your existing headlights, if they are projector type.

if they are not, and are the std reflector style, fitting xenons is rude and selfish to other drivers, as noone will be able to see

Im not sure what Ive got. Its a 1998 328i. The lights with built in angel eyes are waaay more expensive than the DIY kit....so youre saying I go for the cheaper option for angel eyes?

How can it be removed without damaging the glass/lens. I know that you can buy perspex replacement lenses at Autostyle but trying to avoid that route, wanna keep it OEM with the glass.

Gawd....I didnt even realize the DIY kit was a mission lol!
I agree tho, any way to avoid autostyle is a good one. If anyone has a link on how this is all done it would be awesome please

Yup, get the CCFL or LED angel eye rings and install them into your original headlights.

As for the HID upgrade...I have a 98 model E36 and it has the projector type headlight, so i guess yours would also.
The HID kit consists of the bulbs, ballasts and some wires to hook it up.

as for the AE's, do not think any lenses need to be removed to have them fitted..

there are 2 bits of glass that needs to be removed on the e36 (if I remember correctly when I did mine )

there is the exterior lense cover (the rectangle one). this is held on by some metal clips, just need to unclip these and you can remove the glass.

you also need to remove the inner "lenses", the round ones. This you do by cutting around them into the existing silicon. then when you reassemble, you redo the silicon yourself.

it is pretty easy to do.

Are you meaning the full headlight glass cover? Obviously need to remove that to get into the headlights,

i thought you meant the individual glass lenses ..

The cover just clips off, easier once the whole headlight is removed from car..

Thanks, thing is....it has clips but its also sealed tight with some sort of silicone. Think it comes standard like that. How do i get the silicone off in order for me to remove the full glass?

The HID kit can be fitted to the dims only as far as I can see . You buy a H1 kit with two globes , ballasts and wiring .
Try get a kit with 50 or 55 W ballasts - brighter than 35 W older kits . The light bulbs can be 4000 , 6000 or 8000 K etc , the problem is the colour as you approach 12000 K the colour gets purple , and you do not see so good . 6000-8000 K are normally best , whitish light with blue tint .
Angel eyes - normally fit inside the individual lights lens , not directly behind the rectangular front lens .

Thanks, so its not necessary to remove the round lenses for the angel eyes, can just stick them over those round lenses as the rectangular lens will cover everything once completed.

looks ridiculously simple.

and a lot cheaper than an average 700 bucks for ready made ones. hmmmm......:thinker:

tbh I wouldn't be the angel eyes from autostyling "My opinion", as they look terrible.. my advice is to keep it standard
