E36 German Spec M3

Hi Guys, i know this has been discussed over and over, but mine is a little different.
I have the opportunity of getting a German Spec M3
Resprayed Avus Blue
Stock std
Piston went through the block

This vehicle has been parked at a panelbeaters in Lenasia for some time, covered in proper plastic.(For Storage Purpose)
I have spoken to the owner who also has a v8 M3 and i need to throw a number.
Everything works and the car is really clean and neat.
Just the motor.

The owner is a genuine guy and i know him for over 17 years.
What do you guys think.
Take note i dont want to fit a 2jz or 1jz:smilebounce:

Sell car for R400k

Subscribed ... Just note that to fix it properly is going to cost way more than R20k!

Hey bud,

What was the original colour? Re-spray a different colour would influence price.

It would depend on how the re-spray turned out.

Also what is the current mileage, as this would determine age and wear and tear on the rest of the car which would influence price. I see you have stated that the car is neat and clean and everything works. But it still is a car that is around 20 years old. You should expect things to require maintenance. And yes, that is not the sellers worry. Stating the obvious for post purchase

You need to also consider how long has the car been standing.

Are you going to re-build the motor or find a replacement motor? This would also determine price, as I am sure the current owner is well aware of the costs involved to do either.

And yes, please do not put one of those lawn mower engines.

My honest opinion, if you can get the car at a really good price, rebuild the motor if possible. These cars are superb to drive.

Good luck man :=):

Thats way out ,

Im thinking a decent offer of R60-70k taking into consideration it will be
around the R35k mark to repair puts you around R100k

Hi , Thanks Guys
The original Color was Avus blue.

Not sure if i would just buy a Import M3 motor or rebuild the same.
The car has about 245 000km on

Been standing for just over 2 years.
I was around the 45k - 50k mark.

Thanks for all the responses, i will keep the guys updated.

Being re-sprayed the original colour is a positive, again depending on the quality of the re-spray.

I would consider the 3.2 as well.

The fact that it has been standing for over 2 years should be a concern in terms of all the other components. You need to think beyond just the engine.

45k sounds about right.

It also depends on what you want to do with the car?

Keep it long term/restore to former glory/fix and sell/etc

These cars are fetching good money.

However, and please dont take offence but if you going to buy the car, fix it, use it and sell it later, you wont get as much as some of the others due to all of the above i.e. re-spray, engine rebuild and higher mileage in general.

Having said that, you might find a buyer that is willing to overlook the above.

Would also guess a high mileage non-runner E36M3 for R50k is a good deal.

Engine alone could run you much more than R50k I'd guess - depends on how much is wrong and how much you can DIY?

All in costs could turn up to well over R150k to get it fully sorted. Worth considering if it isn't better to get a good runner for R180k then...

He wont sell it for anything less R100k.. maybe R200 is extreme.. but not way out..

Depends on condition.. also now that i hear the mileage maybe 200 is a lot..

R100k for car as is spend 20 to 30k. Sell for 250..

Im used to seeing prestine examples.. theres a n Avus Blue e36 m3 sa spec 50000km all original fsh... at quin auto in Krugersdorp on floor for R700k...

I dunno...

R45-50k is too much for a resprayed E36 M thats been standing for long & will be registered with another motor.
you are also looking at spending probably over R100k to sort E92 engine.
so R200k is too much

IMHO

lets keep it on track & help the OP..look you can ask a milli for a car if you want but its what they are actually selling for...in my opinion if you build a car like this it needs to come in a lot cheaper than retail. Ive done this before...you have to get it for as cheap as possible as there are always other costs that pop up. brakes, shocks, gaskets, servicing, gear oil, i did prop etc. etc. you also don't just pop & engine in & boom it starts & is ready to go.
