e36 fuel pump wire question

Does anyone know if the green/violet wire that runs from the fuel pump under the carpet goes along the green line or the red line over the trans tunnel,

pic off internet for ref*

I have not removed the carpet and i suspect a break in the wire so i need to know if i can just lift the passenger side carpet to get to it or if the whole carpet needs to come out

if I recall correctly it should follow the green line. an Easier option would be to test continuity using a multimeter
