e36 clutch shudder

After replacing 328i clutch it now takes very low compared to about before where it took 3/4 up and with slipping now and again . There is now a shudder on pull away . The flywheel could be moved through say 30 degrees by hand - is this correct ? Can the dual mass flywheel be locked or replaced by an aftermarket flywheel? The flywheel face was quite clean , the pressure plate was full of blue marks !

According to Sachs the flywheel must be replaced with the clutch . The face of the flywheel had no real marks on it , which would indicate a skim may not be needed .

That maybe true but I know of many people that just skim the fly. Keep in mind that a new dual mass flywheel is R15000.

Ok apologies guys cause I dint rely check the price for myself but its what I've heard from the mechanic that replace the clutch on my car he said that OEM from the stealers is that expensive. Realoem quotes the price at $ 862

Try using a braided clutch hose first...look online if you can get a HEL line in SA

i would expect the stealers to charge 15k... but you can get the oem part from autozone for 3k :) you mech is probably telling you that so he can up the price when he changes yours...

Better to take flywheel to work , drill and peg it then skim face . Lightweight flywheels in USA are about 10 pounds instead of 26 pounds in weight ( 4.6 kgs vs 12 kgs ) . Will check slave cylinder seals as well , maybe replace slave and master cylinders and see what happens .

I'm current;y having clutch issues (unmong other things), however I have read and have been advised that you cannot skim a Dual Mass Flywheel. It has to be replaced. @15K you should rather put a lighter performance flywheel in.

So I had some stuff that I needed for my car from BMW, couple door pad clips. Anyways while I was there I got an estimate for the flywheel.

Did you paper your flywheel when fitting the clutch? If so remove everything change the pilot bearing.
