I've been doing some reading and please no hammering if i am wrong. Is it true that if the e36 328 came without asc then it was fitted with an lsd?

in the states and the UK there was a sport edition that came with LSD. Here in SA we did not have such luxuries.

You don't need a LSD if ASC fitted, they are suppose to do +/- the same thing. So you may be right...

im 90% sure it wont have an LSD most BMWs dont have them... if you really want to check put the car in gear, release the hand brake jack the rear wheels up and try turn one of the rear wheels...

if it turns easily and the opposite wheel goes in the other direction its an open diff...

I heard this once and i wasn't sure since my old car didn't have asc and it was a late model so it was just a little odd to me.

No 328i had Limited Slip Diff as standard . Later model 6 cylinders had Automatic Stability Control .This has a seperate throttle valve to reduce power and uses ABS to stop the spinning wheel .So no lsd and asc together .
