E36 328i poly engine and gearbox mounts

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice regarding upgrading of engine and gearbox mounts. Is there a locally supplied kit that doesn't cost the earth? Can't afford the powerflex mounts at 8k for the pair.

I also need the gearbox mounts as it seems advisable to change all the mounts at once.  Has anyone used e46 M3 mounts? Is there a noticeable difference to stock?

The one ones are very strong. No need for poly mounts, unless it’s a track car!
ZF keeps the mounts for these cars

Personally Powerflex, Revshift and Turner motorsport make some of the best upgrade mounts. Locally produced ones are a hit and miss so I would suggest saving up and getting the correct stuff.

I would advise against the poly gearbox mounts as the vibrations are horrible from it.

Go oem gearbox mounts and poly Engine mounts. I did see an article a few years ago about someone using E46 330d engine mounts on a turbo E36 as they built to handle high amounts of torque and were stronger than the E46 M3 mounts. I cant remember if any customization was involved tho

Awesome thanks for the info. Was exactly what I wanted to know.
I will look into the differences between the 330 and m3 mounts...
What about the rest of the suspension and diff mounts and bushings?
Any benefit from going the poly route or is stock still best?

Just saw a typo in my message above. It should read: The OEM ones are very strong.

What's your plan for the car stock daily driver or boost? Seriously difficult to determine what you should use without knowing the intended purpose of the vehicle

I had solid motor mounts and stock gearbox mounts hardly any vibrations.

You could probably do something custom if you keen on poly.

Locally Golden Spring Works might be able to help you

Vehicle is daily driven. Just looking to tighten up things in the suspension department as the car is unstable on uneven surfaces. The shocks are only 40k km old. There is also engine movement. No plans for boost yet though that would be nice.. I am planning on getting the suspension  and mounts updated before installing the M50 manifold and diff..

on my e36 I did the front diff bushing in poly and front rear control arm bushing made difference for the rear. you can also upgrade the rear control arm to have dual ball joint setup like the m3's

I would do those first and see if you happy with the handling as for the motor and gearbox mounts I would only upgrade if they broken

as per the pic below

I would suggest getting ball joints for the green and red blocks and power flex poly bush for the blue box

The reason I say front diff bushing in poly is that is where a lot of the e36's have strain and if the bush is broken then the diff moves
