E36 316i Problems: Idle & Dash Lights

Howzit guys,

Having some issues which requires some expert advice from the fanatics.

Its a '96 316i MEX (M) according to realoem its the M43 motor and they have it as a 318.

Idle - the idle jumps around and starts to hunt when coming to a stop. I’ve cleaned the MAF and ICV, checked the manifolds but can’t find the problem, not too sure what else to check? Any help would be appreciated. I can’t read the codes as I have an OBDII tool not the multi pin under the hood. If someone can read the codes in Pretoria I would appreciate it or any help on the matter?

Dash – There are no lights on the instrument panel and electric window switches, the lights on/door open buzzer also doesn’t work. I noticed the illumination dimmer switch gets very hot for some reason. I changed the switch and still find it to get very hot. I also checked the light switch itself and no lights. Checked on the net about the wiring loom running through the trunk – all wires look quite good. I should also mentioned that the central locking also acts up every now and then. All fuses are in order. Any idea what else I can do before getting an electrician to check and charge me?

Climate control unit - my unit is fooked, anyone with a spare unit?

Thanks

The idle hunting is normally a leak somewhere on the intake. Look for hoses not secured properly, or perished.

I have a friend in PTA that should be able to assist with the other gremlins: Peet 0728553026.

As Ters said check all hoses and connection for the idling.

As for the lights in the centre part there are a few led globes that you will prob have to replace. Mine had the same problem.. as for the door light not to sure.

And the dimmer switch mine also gets a little hot but not u touchable hot.

For cetral lockibg it is most prob your actuators that are acting up. They are a real bitch ti get to and remove. (Still need to do mine)

Hope you get it sorted bud.

Ok so I'm not sure what this valve is actually called realoem has it as the adjuster unit, after using the hose pipe test I found air leaking from it. I removed it and cleaned it replaced the o-ring. Idle seems much better. Its the black valve on the passenger side of the intake the dipstick is also held in place by it.
