"Rotating my right ankle I angle the throttle towards a smaller angle with it bulkhead, the in-line six’s first-generation VANOS system engages and the tachometer needle sweeps clockwise"

Vanos on an S38....... I could only wish

"...Visibility was plainly astounding. Rollover crash safety regulations were hardly an alarmist issue in the early 1990s and hence the tremendous glasshouse area, framed by almost fragilely thin-looking A-pillars, which enable you can gauge wheel placement perfectly, whether parking or apexing..."

I don't really agree here. My 540i has the same sport seats and the body is the same and I find visibility for parking a little bad. The A and C-pillars are not that thin. I've had small hatch backs disappear in the C-pillar. I found looking around in a E34 with normal seats easier though. That said, visibility might be much better than new cars, though it's been a while since I've driven anything new. :dunno:

However, when it comes to visibility and ease of use in terms of parking and seeing where you're going and where you've been, I have yet to drive something better in that regard than my E30. :)

"... all that is good about the blue-and-white propeller roundel’s historical product portfolio..."

The roundel is NOT a representation of BMW's aircraft engine days. It's very well explained in the first video in this link:

I agree 100%

And a fun fact for the day is that the coupe e30 has even thinner C pillars compared to the 4dr.

When an e30 has the normal thin rubber bootspoiler fitted, you can judge the edge of the car within millimeters. Who ever needed PDC in those days :bangdesk:

I have found that when the e30 has sport seats fitted, it is also slightly more difficult to judge park distances, because one sits lower
