General Maintanence;
Hi everyone, I had time today - so I finally decided to address my leaking
windshield washer fluid reservoir (also it's level indicator/sensor) and also my driver's side door brake (which have been making noises everytime I opened my door too wide).
So first I decided to remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir, was a piece of cake as the only thing keeping it in place is the large plastic screw located right on top.
After wrestling off the 20 year old factory 'black glue stuff' and wriggling it
around to avoid the headlights vertical aim device - it's off!
Disconnected the fluid level indicator and also pulled out the windshield washer pump.
The washer level indicator looks pretty old and I reckon I should replace
it as well, hopefully not too expensive.
My suspicion is that it is leaking from where the washer pump meets the hole in the windshield washer fluid reservoir unit itself i.e. a black rubber gasket.
Once it was off I decided to wash it as it was quite dirty. I used a combination of Blade and also Wynn's Mag Cleaner to scrub off the grime on the reservoir.
I then wet-sanded off the black stuff still stuck onto the reservoir with a
120grit sand paper (as I only had that around).
I decided that this was good enough as nobody will see this because it's on the underside.
I then cleaned the inside (wheel well)...I reckon next time the vehicle goes in or a service, I must have them steam-clean the engine bay and the bottom of it as well :thumbs:
Then onto problem 2; now a few times my door has been blown wide open by strong wind and I reckon those were the precursor of what will soon happen. Now every time I open the door (to that 1st stop) it makes a metal knocking noise, so I knew it was the door brake.
After the windshield washer fluid reservoir was done, I took off the door panel and had a look. One of my metal window guide has completely been sheered off and was just lying on the bottom of the door...and there's no way for me to put in a new one so I just ignored it as there's now problem with the window so far (touch wood :mmm
Removed the door brake (by unclipping the bottom clip at the A-pillar, popped it out and unscrewing the two hex bolts) and it is clear that one of the mounting bracket has sheered clean off :mmm:
So I'll be going to SMG tomorrow morning to see how much it costs from them :fencelook: , I phoned MasterParts but they don't sell 'em
