Hi Guys, my first problem is that when I start in the cool temperature of the garage the car starts fine (apart from a little bit of bendix noise) then if I park my car in the sun even after a 5 minute drive the following happens. The car starts right away but after a couple of seconds it cuts out then on second try after a long bout of starting motor turning it finally catches and all is hunk dory until I park at my next stop and then it's a repeat performance. My second problem became apparent today when I noticed a distinct loss of power, got home ok but maximum speed was about 100kph. It was then that I noticed 'Trans Program' on the display. The air conditioner/blower has also started behaving erratically and cuts out and starts when it likes. Are any or all of these symptoms related or can anyone give advice in general. Cheers

OK, as far as the Trans Program problem goes, I found that I needed 4.5 litres of transmission fluid (one month after a service) but it still has a problem getting to just over 2000 rpms, could it still be the fuel pump?

Sounds like fuel starvation. Hard to tell without having the car, especially when its electronic gremlins. Can you give more info, any sounds,, does the car rev slowly to 2000 and then suddenly rev normally from there onward?

Does it rev normally in park or neutral but slow when in drive, just trying to cancel out if there could still be further errors on the g.box.

If it battles to rev in the lower range but is better when it gets into the higher range it could more likely be a spark related problem, either the coil is not supplying enough current in lower range or even ignition cables/cap or rotor.

fuel starvation will allow the car to rev in the normal range but sputter in the higher range as it needs more fuel, same for the fuel rail valve. Fuel pumps are the same .

If the low g/box oil is anything to go one, perhaps the service shop did something wrong and its rearing its head now..

Hi Luis, The car does rev normally in park but only slowly rises to 2000 revs when in drive, even with full pressure on the accelerator which does provide some resistant pressure when applied. As I mentioned previously, the car has had an on-going problem, which may be related, of not starting first time after being left in hot conditions, it would 'catch' then die almost as if the choke failed to kick in and then would start on the second attempt after a prolonged effort. As far as the service goes, this could be the second problem related to it. The first was when I noticed that the brakes became dysfunctional and when I opened her up to check the fluid I found the fluid cylinder detached and lying on its side, empty! I was told that BMW had a 'notorious problem' with that happening as the cylinder was not locked in and only relied on the rubber rings to keep it attached. Have you heard of such an issue before? Now with the discovery of the lack of transmission fluid I suspect that the mechanic involved may have removed the Brake fluid cylinder to gain better access to the transmission fluid inlet and then 'forgot' to fill it. I asked them to check the fuel lines for cracks re the starting problem and they said that all was fine there but now I don't know. I have checked for atransmission leak after refilling by using newspaper underneath the car and there seems to be none. They have always been good in the past so may have been a bad day?
Thanks again for your interest and I hope the above information is useful. Tom
