Part number of existing afm ?
This may be same as 320i and 325i , they have a moving flap and tracks that wear out under the top cover . If you measure the resistance from closed to open and there is a problem then you may be able to fix . You can pm me if needed .

Part number 136 212 844 07 on realoem shows 320i and 323i up to 09/1985 and 520i using this part number , so you may get one from a 320i (chrome bumper ) still working .
