E 46 330D DDE Light

Hi all BMW Fans

My 2003 E46 330D died on me today at a very bad spot The warning light DDE came on and died in the dark on a gravel road. It refuses to start again. The light stays on and I do not know where to start looking for the problem. Yesterday the light also came on, I stopped and switched it off and after about 10 minutes I started the car and the light were out. All went well untill now.
As I turned onto the gravel road the engine died. :argh:
Please any help would be much appreciated.

it might be a fuel system fault, a fueling fault will stop the engine dead, while turbo or air related might still let the engine run, albeit badly..

try to listen if you can hear the low pressure pump running(under the car) when you switch the ignition on (before starting) if you dont hear the pump running it might be the relay driving the pump (under the cubbyhole)

else it might be something on the high pressure side, difficult to diagnose without having diagnostics done/codes read.. the common rail engines have a lot of electronics on them..

Thanks for all the sdvice. New fuel pump under seat and running like a train.
