Is it worthwhile to go to the trouble to drop the suspension on a car
does it really enhance handling around corners?

Woah dude - you've got a lot of questions...

Why don't you start with an intro in the showroom with some details on your car. Put up a list of what you intend to do/what you want and take it from there. I'm sure you'll get a lot more input than 5 unique threads ...

no just lowering you car will not improve handling that much, but a good shock and spring combo will...

I have the full Koni and H&R range what car is this?

If you do it properly, then yes, lowering centre of gravity and minimising body roll.
Do it wrong and it will probably be worse.

Yes it does but don't use cheap kak. Car will drive like a truck.
