Does upgrading to a JCW airbox need a ECU update?

Hey,

I'm going to be getting the JCW airbox and air intake upgrade ( from
the JCW tuning kit package ) on my R56 Cooper S at the end of the
month and am wanting to know if it means updating the ECU as well?

Also, can anyone tell me what kind of performance increase this will
give me?

Not absolutely neccessary but recommended

Better airflow means better combustion which again means better power and adjusting your software will improve fuel consumption as well as performance!

I don't know about air intakes- I've got one cos I've been conditioned over the years to believe that more cold air , better combustion and all that good stuff.

Now, whether a "drop in" would get more cold air from the engine bays hot air supply, I just don't know .

In conjunction with some extractor/ branch pipes with race cats , induction kit and software will produce a decent increases.

If you've got a cooper S- software and you're sorted- booya

Jcw was producing 210bhp If I remember correctly but that was a R30k performance pack from the dealer- this price is 3 yrs old by the way- wife had an R56 that's how I know

Cool thanks, so I don't have to get have the ecu update done with it. I'll ask how much extra it is though just to have an idea.

I'm having the JCW Tuning Kit fitted through Auto Atlantic ( in Cape Town )
but can only afford the air box and induction upgrade now. I'll be having
the exhaust done early next year. They said the kit will give me a 13kw power increase and 20nm torgue increase.

I'm keen to know what percentage of that power and torgue increase I'll get with just the airbox and induction upgrade :)

Why dont you leave the intake and do Software upgrade through a local tuner?

Will probably be cheaper than intake and definitely extract more power.

I don't want to void my service plan so am only going to be doing dealer approved upgrades.

Makes sense, Didnt realise you still have MP
Did they say 13kw from the full kit (exhaust, ecu update, intake) or just the intake?

It's a Motorite service plan, not the MINI motorplan but it still has the same fine print! :)

Yup, it's 13kw from the full kit. That'll take it up to 141kw which is still great :)

Hi there, I have been thinking about having the JCW tuning kit installed on my 2012 Cooper S. I was wondering what Auto Atlantic quoted you on the parts and installation of the kit. Thanks
