Couldn't help but laugh at the sale below.

I was swindled by the same seller previously and seems like he is showing his lack of tyre knowledge once more.

When i traded my OEM 18's with bridgestones with about 70% tread left, he insisted it was 40%, but here he is claiming 95%
http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-car-tyre...yres-fits-bmw-x5-x6/1001409144800910002293209

R2000 each R4000 for both tyres
Tyre size:275/40/20
Tyre make : Bridgestone Dueler Runflat
Tyre tread:95% left see pic of tyre tread measured
Tyres are Not Retread...No patches or punctures
Tyres are like New as per pictures...Please no discount they cost almost R4k each thus u save R4k
Also no time wasters and no browsers only call if you are 100% sure of a commitment
TYRES FIT BMW X5 X6
JOE 0824722233

His pic, measured at 8mm tread, no way that can be 95%

Some pics i found of the same tyre with considerably more tread

While R2k might be a steal for those tyres, i have no clue, why lie about the life left, 95%? That looks more like 40% to me

if you look in the tread groove it looks like he has removed the 'depth rod' on the verier this is how he is getting his reading

this is open fraud and should be reported so he is removed from the gum

Are Bridgestone Duelers the same as Bridgestone Potenza RE050s? Looks like the same tread pattern...

Yep, and look as the tread depth versus the verier's internal measuring points - looks very different, plus even if this was a valid measurement, he's hold the verier at an angle, so it would show a larger measurement than reality, it's almost at a 45 degree angle, or more! LOL

Nothing wrong with selling used tyres, but not for this sort of money, and not when the truth about the tyre's condition is being obviously skewed like this. And it's used, so the customer should reserve the right to see them first before deciding to have them fitted.

he's being doing this for years .. i know his ads all to well .. gives u kak trade in aswell .. tyre thread should be measured to the marker as once uve hit the marker u liable for a fine ..

as for the vernier .. what he's done is move it a certain distance .. clear the reading ( with vernier still opened ) and moved it more .. its digital so its easy to manipulate the readings .. i work with them daily ...

i would rate those tyres at 2mm max thread ... and on that note .. i would never support the mentioned seller ... our hard earned money deserves better

there is not even a depth rod on the vernier he can just roll it out to read whatever he wants :skit:

i am also of the opinion that thread needs to be measured from the indicator, since it becomes illegal after that....

why anyone would want to put "unknown" quality used tyres on a performance machine such as a BMW beats me

Yep, this sort of thing is where you certainly don't want to skimp on quality!
