DO YOU TRUST THE TYRE PRESSURE INDICATOR AT FUEL STATIONS???

I inflated my tyre yesterday and checked it after wards with my hand held pressure gauge.

The fuel station gauge read 2.5Bar, but my hand gauge read 4.5Bar!!!!

I deflated it to 2.5bar (read on the hand held gauge) and then checked on another of the fuel station gauges and it also read 2.5Bar.

No I don't trust it, I've going to the petrol station everytime I fill up (about a 2 week interval) and everytime I check my tyre pressure..it remains the same :flyfun: Maybe my tyres just don't let a lot of air escape ? :dunno:

If your car has nitrogen it's free.
If not its R25 per tyre.

Or you can tell them you have mixture of NO2 + normal air then they will deflate your tyres and put NO2 for you

It does not matter tire pressures should be checked cold so pointless using fuel station as the tire is warm by the time you get there anyway... get a 12v pump and do it before you leave so the tires are not heated up...

I get about a 0.4bar difference from cold to warm... and the pressure chart is for cold tires...

Same here, all stations differ, dont trust them. OPC has a built in compressor in the booth since there is not sparewheel so I use that.

that pressure hoses and gauges are thrown around at the garages therefore their readings are all messed up,rather keep a your own pressure checker in the car,i think its like R20 from midas,then u know how much u need to fill

If you don't have much of a choice then at least try and use the same station and the same pump. If it's suddenly way off then you'll know something might be wrong with the pump as passed readings should somewhat consistent.

The 318's tires keep there pressure VERY well while the 540 not so much. Might 'cos it's much heavier :dunno:

I use my tyre pressure meter that i use for setting my semis with on all my vehicles, those pump stations ones have cost me many tyres that have been damaged cos of incorrect pressure.

From experience...NO. I always check tires MYSELF.

I do not trust either the gauge, or the operator as those gauges are treated very rough

Best is to have your own 'trustworthy' gauge to verify

if not...

1st measure the current tyre pressure B4 changing
If all tires are very different (to previous or another) then use another gauge

Old carpentry saying : Measure twice and cut once

Some garage have digital ones nowadays, I use those.

Or go to yey & get topped us with nitrogen as the air escapes faster than nitrogen so each top up the concentration gets higher.

I usually only check first thing in morning after slow drive straight to garage that's less than 1 km away.
