Different types of services

Useful tip: From a workshop's point of view, it is sometimes difficult to determine which service is due on a first-time customer's car. Here's some basic info in this regard:

If you have an older BM, like an E46 or older, generally the service intervals are as follows: oil service, inspection 1, oil service, inspection 2 - and then the cycle repeats itself. The car's service lights won't tell you which one is due next. That's why it's important to have the service book filled in correctly, because that's where you need to look. See what the last 3 services were, and then you'll know what is due next.

If you have a newer model (E90 and younger), your car has condition-based services. Now the car will tell you when something needs to be replaced, be it the microfilter, spark plugs or oil service. A warning light will come on and you'll have to manually go into the Service Info to see which item is due. If you are not sure how to do this, see the owner's manual. Remember on condition-based service vehicles, brake flushes and brakes are deemed to be service items as well.

This will really help any workshop who knows BMW's when it comes to quoting and booking. It's a bit frustrating when we see a service was done and they ticked all the boxes : inspection 1, oil service and inspection 2 - but it's only a matter of not knowing the system. :nonono:
