How would I find out if my 2013 M135i is the old spec or the new spec. I didnt even know there were two different specs. Apparently something to do with the turbo.

Does this effect the performance? Meaning, is new spec faster?

Best way to know which spec M135i you have is to open the bonnet and look for EWG connectors.
In terms of performance the new spec is faster. It holds boost till redline where the older spec fails and drops boost after 4800rpm.
Old spec M135s come in at 205wkw-215wkw
New spec M135s come in at 220wkw-225wkw
When modded with the same mods, the new spec clearly shows an advantage of at least 25wkw gains over the older model
On the road on a rolling run with both the new spec and old spec modded , the new spec runs away easily and opens at least a 3car gap and going. Older spec is unable to hold boost and starts to die off.
At the moment the only way to get the older spec on par with the new spec is a turbo upgrade offered by Vargas in the states but will still lack the advantage of EWG that the newer spec has.
Hope this helps
