Dezzi Raceways Drag Fest

Hi Guys, I have been to a few drag racing events in KZN. As an avid BMW fan, these drags are always a disappointment for BMWs. How come these cars perform so poorly on the strip. I mean you get M4s and M6s getting whipped by modified Opel Corsas or Toyota Corollas. IMO, despite the weight difference there should only be one winner. Mind you these Beemers are not standard either.

Any difference in CPT or JHB with regards to results?

I have always believed that BMWs were not really drag racing cars and more suited for track events in general .

I would say that and geared for cruising at 250kph+ on the Autobahn. :cartel:

No matter what you drive or bring to the drags... there will always be a faster golf. I mean you wouldn't want to drive it or be near it when it crashes and blows-up, but there will always be a faster golf. Unfortunately. :YesNo:

Theres also a distinct difference between something which can cruise the highways and open roads but also put some good times down at the track as well.

Then theres something that can rip it up on track but with make your ears bleed and your back ache on a trip to the local pizza hut.

Horses for courses imho.

And yes, I don't want to be near any of those shopping carts when they crash and explode.

Been to a few Street to strip and Drag wars, BMWs have little to no chance on the strip especially on take off. (Tarlton)

Once saw a M6 get destroyed by a Scrirrocco
M5 murdered by a GTi MKV
135i assassinated by a GTi MKVII
7R shi*ting on a M6
X5M eaten by a PGTi

But the beauty lies in when you are going back to PTA after the race, where the GTis and Rocs run out of air around 160kph on the N14 and the mighty BMWs 6 cyinders go past like it ain't a thing. Not forgetting the windy bits behind krugersdorp past Makiti and Engendi that is when thwy come into their own.

Personally I am anti turbos and the quick dash of these high pressure turbo pocket rockets just doesn't excite me at all.

Like the one guy said, there will always be a faster golf out there. Remember the video of the Opel Kadet chowing an X5M?

I remember a video of a heavily modded M5 chopping a veyron. But that wasn't over 400m though. Friend of mine has a mk 1 golf that's shits over x35 like they are parked. But it runs of racing fuel and a trip from jhb to dbn would cost R6000 in fuel alone plus you will have to fill up every 80km as it has a tiny surge tank in the boot.

One needs to remember something gentleman..........

The ladies may climb into the faster golfs with their stripped out interiors and dustbin exhausts........

But not even a k down the road they will be looking for refinement and comfort.........

And that is where we win.

They may win the battle. But they will never win the war!
