Design flaw with Apple

Anyone experienced issues with their Macbook pro?

My 15 inch 3 y.o Mackbook pro decided to self destruct. This is actually the second macbook pro of mine in the space of 2 months that went this way... The first one had the trackpad pop up from expansion of the case and I thought it may have been abuse on my part so didnt bother... Only to find 2 months later it happens again to my other machine (pics below)...

So basically there is are design issues with these laptops, which seem to give them a 3 year lifespan before they go kaboom.... From very minimal browsing it seems that the batteries have an expansion issues and its up to the user to replace them after a stipulated number of charge cycles.... Just sounds like crap design to me...

Really disappointing considering I'm on my third macbook now... If only I had known earlier...:bangdesk:

Sorry bro i hope this does not happen to my mac book Pro. It's weird that they pop like that i guess the aluminium casing is a ticking time bomb.

Are you going to replace it with another macbook ?

Problems or not Mac FTW :praise:

Too late, I am on my 3rd already.... I now have the 13inch matchbook pro, but this was purchased before the previous two went kaboom :flyfun:

So much for premium feel :p

I would rather have a plasic laptop than one that will pop and any given time

I have a 7 year old dell... Still works perfectly (And i paid 3.5 k for it 7 years ago)...

Both these Macs (3 years old) that popped totalled 50k (with the Apple care) which ended like 4 months ago....

Yea ... Harsh ... Sorry to hear man but maybe its time to reconsider brand.

Apple has been known to be overpriced with old technology. Read a article yesterday about a person who switched and said the so called eco system everyone is worried about is completely unfounded and just a excuse for people to not try something else.

Maybe give it a go. Maybe you experience the same

Wow, that's pretty shocking and unexpected! Maybe specific to this model/spec? Have you found any similar cases of this kind of catastrophic failure on mac or other forums? I am sure since you have had two virtually identical machines fail like this there would be more out there that have failed in the same manner.

In late 2009 I bought my Wife a 13" Macbook Pro and it is still going strong! The only failure that it had was the SATA ribbon cable that needed to be replaced - fitted a larger HDD at the same time. It has taken a few superficial knocks over the years, but just keeps working.

On the other hand, my Dell N5110 15R Inspiron of just over two years old is a useless POS! Within the first year it needed a new HDD, battery life has always been really bad and it overheats (despite being cleaned and dusted regularly) very easily such that you have to use a notebook cooler to keep it cool enough. A few weeks ago the LED screen failed - the middle third developed glitchy vertical lines, then the entire screen when all screwed up. Of course, a few weeks/months out of warranty, so had to fork out for a new screen. Battery life is such that it is no longer a notebook, it cannot run from its battery for more than a few minutes regardless of energy saving mode. I am and always have been particular about giving the battery proper charge/discharge cycles, and not leaving on charge for close to 24 or more. And yet for virtually day 1, the battery performance was never great, but has definitely gotten a lot worse even though the onboard diagnostics says the battery is performing fine. Really not impressed with this thing!

Wow... that is weird.

I have the older design macbook and it's lasted me since 2009. No issues.

Hmmmm.... maybe these newer macbooks are designed to die so you go buy another one. Bastards.

Sorry to hear.
Mine is going for year 3 and no issues what so ever. Best little laptop i have bought. Use for training presentation purposes every second day and car diagnostic logging.
Mac is best.

Oh well... I am going to try and mail them and see what their response is like... Not too sure, but the little research i have done says that the battery typically has a lifespan and a number of charge cycles it can be exposed to before it needs to be replaced...

I also heard (through word of mouth) that apparently there is a notification in the system tray (not sure if its still called this in OSX)which pops up when its time to replace batteries.

Either way, let see what Apple themselves have to say....
