Hey mense,

Is it normal to smell a lot more fumes after removing the cats? I haven't used the car much thereafter but the consumption doesn't seem to be more so far.

Is it completely necessary to get the software done even though I am using the original sensors which were plugged into "mini cats"?

if you not planning any more mods just get software done it will be well worth the money and you will know its running right...

Is it smelling rich or is it the welds that you can smell?

There will be a bit of a difference. I think the ECU has to adapt slightly.

it all depends on what the ecu has decided to yo with what you have done i would just take it for a tune and be over with it :)

Yip it is, I think :mmm: even though I bought my car decatted.... compared to my previous 328i which was stock standard, the fumes on this car is much richer.

You won't notice a big difference in consumption because your right foot is too heavy conducting tests after decatting :) BUT with software upgrade, thats where you will notice change in consumption

If it smells rich it burns rich hence a waste of fuel and money!
Go and have your CO level checked... thats the cheapest method to see where you stand without wasting too much money!

CO on part load and
CO on full load

Then post here

Your ecu normally adapts itself after about 300kms, what mileage have you done so far?

That's what the exhaust dude said too - Around 150-200kms thus far.

The fumes are hectic though but the consumption is still ok. Reset the onboard this morning and when I got to work, it looked perfect.

Could it not be the regen process thats running it rich. I usaually does that to warm the cats up and clean them also

Regenerating after-treatment systems for particle emissions and exhaust gases, such as carbon monoxide,
hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides, are increasingly used in passenger cars so that they comply with regulatory
emissions standards. These systems work in a non-continuous manner, storing pollutants during normal engine
operation and then chemically decomposing and releasing them in a process known as regeneration

like i said before you should tune it to make the ecu happy... while you at it they can also get maximum out of the decat...

I want to but not until the freeflow exhaust and airflow is done. Don't wanna pay twice
