Hello guys. Got a bit of an issue. Out in the middle of nowhere - Hazyview to be exact. Car won't start. In fact most the electronics won't come on includoing I-Drive. Car won't even open with the remote. Tried boosting but not much good. Any ideas. Warning lights came on like a Xmas tree before dying down. I'm guessing battery which was last changed by previous owner in 2010. If battery who best to contact here in Hazyview - near KNP?

Regards

Sunny

There are places like Hi-Q etc in Hazyview. These places usually have batteries, yet limited stock.

I think dial 10118 and state your area and ask for a battery centre or Hi-Q. Phone them up and see if they have a big enough battery for you.

Thank you Chef. I'll give a call in the morn. I just hope it really is the battery.can't think of it being anything else. I know the remote has a battery too but I'm sure that can't be the problem. It is a comfort access remote & has a battery.

Supa Quick to the rescue. Brand new Willard battery sorted out the problem. Many thanks to Wickus for coming out and living up to his company's name.Great service  .Now I would need to get it coded. Any suggestions who I could get to do this in JHB - Midrand area & what I can expect to pay? I'd like to get it done before driving down to DBN. I'll have to wait until Friday afternoon or Saturday as there's nobody in Hazyview who can do it.

when you say "coded"...do you mean the remote control key coded to the X5...?

not sure about the X5, but on all the BMW's I have owned up till now (E36/E32/E38/E39) the key can be coded to the vehicle easily by yourself...just search YouTube for BMW key coding to see the procedure.

Strictly speaking, you have to code the new battery to the car - basically telling the car that it has a new battery installed.

I believe that the car's electric system adapts the charging rate according to the age or condition of the battery. By telling it that a new battery is installed, it will use the appropriate charging rate for the new battery.

Thank you Blue Shirt. This is the type of coding I was referring to. I am still in Hazyview until Friday. I would like to get the coding done for the new battery. I will be in Midrand on Saturday. Can anyone recommend a dealer or indi who could do this at a reasonable cost?

If its urgent is there not a BMW dealership in Nelspruit that can help you out?

Yes the closest dealership is Nelspruit. It is not too urgent so will wait until I get back to JHB.
