DCT V Manual boxes

I think it's fairly simple these days. DCT boxes are faster, offer better performance and fuel efficiency. Manuals offer more fun to those who enjoy a high level of driver involvement.

Different strokes, different folks. I personally would like to have DCT as a daily and Manual as my weekender

I couldn't have put it better myself

Having just recently acquired a bike, the level of "rider" involvement that is required is just great feeling. This feeling has long faded in the e46, having to just sit in traffic. But that feeling is still there when you track the car. At Midvaal the past weekend on the second to last corner (the horse shoe, long 3/2 second gear corner). I struggled to get a good line and when I got the line staying in 3rd gear meant I dropped out of the torque band, result was a very slow and agonizing exit. As the day progressed I figured out the best way around that corner was the same line as before but mid corner I have gear down. It stepped out on me a few times but when I got it right, by right I mean getting the clutch to just feeding in smoothly and not kick the arse out, it work. Once I dropped the clutch very quickly, and it stepped side ways almost instantly. Big moment but something learnt about cornering and car control.

You will never have that feeling of car control in a DCT, that is why I prefer manual.

Mixed Emotion this....

i've seen guys using the DCT to gear down sometimes while in the apex of the bend...

apparently no/minimal to none powertrain loss allowing this... and the benefit of traction...

the DCT Boxes are becoming more of a finer art... seems that only a handful of our generation will know what 3 pedals is all about...

So the computer does the work then, that is what I don't like.

Having made the move from manual to dct there are pro's and con's.

Manual pro's: driver involvement, cheaper to fix/upgrade/replace, increased control.
Con's: slower gear changes, no launch control, potential disaster if the wrong gear is selected while down changing.

DCT: smooth gears changes while commuting, brilliantly quick changes in sport mode, launch control

Cons: very expensive to service/repair/upgrade, less driver involvement, heavier.
