Dont get me wrong, the awesomeness does overwhelm me in this case.

However, I think it takes the fun out of the restoration project handing over a cheque to somebody, there is a huge amount of satisfaction to be gained from doing your own research, planning and then building, even the tracking down of parts is fun (in a wierd kind of Marylon manson way).

Got to admit though, that Csi is pretty :)

I agree with what zaleonardz said, the fun of restoration is doing it yourself.
There are advantages to BMW doing it though, you might have trouble finding parts to restore your M1 (I wish :)) for instance.

I wonder if this BMW classic car centre has a parts department, for the diy'ers out there.

The answer is YES  and BMW are extremely helpful too people who want to restore classic examples of BMW's.If you need anything they will get the part for you...may be a bit expensive for some parts though

That is super cool.. I like to think that when I'm an old fart one day I'll be able to get a factory restored E46 M3 :)

Imagine that... 2068, you've just put coilovers in your newly refurbished 2005 E46 M3. And although you feel pretty chuffed about this, your neighbor laughs at you cause he just installed Vaccuride 7000's in his 2066 Whonda.
His mod makes his ride float 3 inches higher to successfully clear the increasing amount of zombie leftovers found on the roadways in these times, whilst your neat inch and a half drop causes you to lose both splitters (which you added last week...) not more than a block down the road.

This is soo awesome! Id do this in a heartbeat to my Old E30! infact i did hear of a company in the US that does these restorations, but im sure these guys would do a better job.
What an awesome job! I wonder what it looked like before the restoration and if it has that "new" car smell !

It may be fun but to restore a car like that but remember, not everyone has the necessary skills, tools and knowledge to be able to fully restore a classic car.
