hey all
thought i would start a thread where everyone with a smart phone can contribute. i have a samsung galaxy s3 and i want to let you know some of the cool software i have downloaded. would be great if others can use this thread to do the same. a number of these software packages are cross platform - in other words work on iPhone, Blackberry, Android etc (eg. Whatsapp).
ok here is my list so far:
1) Swiss Army Knife (Android)
- Flashlight
- Ruler
- Timer
- Stop Watch
- Compass
- Bubble Level
- Calculator
- Magnifying Glass
- Mirror
FREE
Brilliant app and worth the download.
2) Talking Translator (Android, others?)
- listens to your voice and translates to a selected language.
FREE
Great for those who travel to foreign countries.
3) Shazam and SoundHound (Android, iPhone, iPad, others?)
- both apps do the same thing. they listen to music that is playing and they identify the name of the song and the artist. most songs are identified within 5 seconds. if you are a fairly good singer, you can sing or hum the tune and this software should be able to identify the tune. It then links you to further details relating to the song, such as YouTube Video, Discography, etc.
FREE
I was amazed at these apps. mind boggling how quick and accurate they are. they have mis-identified / not been able to identify a couple of songs, but most times brilliant.
3) Swiftkey 3 (Android)
- i hated the standard keyboard on the galaxy s3. ended up wanting to throw the phone away through frustration. i ran a free trial of this software and the phone is now much more usable. Once the trial runs out, you can purchase the full software for around R47. Worth every cent.
Thats it for now. I have many other apps that I will add to this thread, but will give others a chance to post their recommended ones.
