Confusing Part numbers when trying to find ZHP Gear Knob

Howsit guys,

I was just a Auric Auto now getting pricing for a replacement ZHP gear knob for an E46 330i, and I'm a bit confused. There are two different part numbers for what seems to be the exact same gear knob - same description, everything, except one is cheaper than the other.

The part numbers are:
Gearshift knob,leather/M plaque/6-speed SCHWARZ 1 03/2003 25117896886 $79.00

Heavy version
03 Gearshift knob,leather/M plaque/6-speed SCHWARZ 1 03/2003 25117896884 $68.00

What the hell is the difference? I know Kabal got the 25117896886. They have the 25117896884 in stock.

Please advise.

Thanks
A

Was there any differences on listed on BMW's EPK?

No, the only difference was the price. Maybe you're right tho, it would make sense with the price difference. Do you recommend the weighted version?

Yup, a heavier one tends to give smoother gear changes, especially if you plan on going for a short shifter as well.

I think the one that they have in stock will be the same dimensions as the stock shift knob, whereas the other one, that Kabal got, is a bit shorter and probably lighter. I'd prefer the second one.

No, they are the same size as shown by the diagram.

i just took a peek at google images

25117896886 - looks like an E46 M3 Shifter
25117896884 - looks like an E36 M3 Shifter

perhaps its just my imagination but they do look somewhat different.

Checked Realoem, the 25117896886 (Part #3), looks shorter than the other ones. I wouldn't bother with the other one being that it's the same size as the stock knob.

Yes, but look closely - 'part 3' has two part numbers listed as per my earlier post. Same description, same image.

Why do you wanna change? Wait till you get the car on Monday and have a look at the gear knob first.

I'm definitely going to check it before, I just noticed some wear in pics. So I was looking into it pre-emptively. Its just a way im keeping myself occupied.. ;)

I definately got part #3 on that diagram

if there is indeed a heavier once, it must be super heavy, I am sure that you could easily kill someone with the one I have

it (just the shifter) is more than double the weight of the original e46 m3 shifter+boot
