Hi guys,

Just wanted some advice. I really want to color code my door handles on my white E90 since they stand out.... in black.... and I've phoned a few places and their pricing is outrageous. R2000......

Do you guys know of any places I could go that would have this done for cheap ? But also do a good job at the same time ? :) Your input would be appreciated. FYI, car still at the repair center but I would like to have this done to make it look all pretty and such....: )

See if you can get some from a scrappie. Handles need to be a decent job as they take a beating with nails/rings/key/keyfobs etc.

The E90 Start pack had black handles. Pay the money for a good job and to have it done right. White is not an easy shade to blend as you may think. R500 per handle including spray and fitment no bad.

Well my car is a 2005 model (the exclusive model). But yeah, black handles....some like the look, but me personally, not really.

I just never thought that R2000-3000 is the expected price to pay just to color code these things. To me, that seems like a hellava lot of coin.

Seems stupid but that you can kinda justify that price.

There are about 176 (I think thats right) shades of white, thats before you start considering things like sun fading ect.....

Then there is the strip and assemble time, so you are easily looking at 3 to 4 hours here, 300 an hour labour (which is almost directly overhead) and some profit... 2k is easy..

However, your car is at the beaters, they are going to be mixing paint with a color match,so... they should be able to do that for you I am sure... ?

Yes they can, I asked them...they first told me R1000. Then the technician working on my car said that he has no idea how that figure came about. He said that it would cost about R650 per door, so R2600. I'm not sure if that figure includes the paint or not.

About a year ago, I was considering doing this on my old E90, which was a Sep 2005 build and had teh black door handles.

I asked for a quote from Lyndhurst auto repair centre and they quoted me R450 per handle. The problem isnt painting them, as they are small.

The issue is that you need to remove the whole interior door trim to do this, which is why its expensive.

I thought, it was too expensive, and then saw chrom door handle covers on ebay which were working out to about R600 incl shipping for a set. Then theres customs on top of that. you can check on ebay, i am sure its still there.

In the end, I thought the cost wasnt justified to paint or buy the cover off ebay, so I just left it, and ended up trading the car in 4 months later.

But, I am sure Twinz or Revo can organise the chrome door handle pulls and covers for you, just check.
