Chrome trim to black - finally begun the transformation

The state of the chrome trim around the windows is really annoying me. No fix has worked in the long run. Yesterday I redid one strip in semi-gloss black and the result is great.

Not sure I want to go gloss on them since I will be "mattefying" the 7er soon anyway.

Unicorn blood and pixie tears...nothing but the best for the 7 :)

Lol but seriously, I used Rustoleum 2x paint and primer on my side mirrors months ago and they still look perfect so using the same again. It holds up super well to wind and weather.

Haha, got jokes  I want to do something similar on my car. All the chrome to gloss black. Was considering having them wrapped in gloss black but that is a headache. Breaking clips and twisting trim pieces :hammerhead:

Taking the trim off is a delicate thing to do. I also considered wrapping but it adds too much bulk on small pieces such as the trim. Maybe try plastidip with the gloss spray.

Looks good. But I'd you're not going to wrap or dip the car in a matte finish I would go gloss for the trim. But looks great

That black will look much better than the chrome pieces :praise:

Looks awesome :coolShake:

I am also going to Plasti dip my chrome pieces this week including the grill on my E90 to black, seeing  that my car is already black

Hope you the best and please post pics once you are done or even while busy with it. It is an inspiration to all of us

That's the plan. I want to go matt white with the roof in black. The chrome bits on the bumper can stay chrome since they are too finicky to do individually and I dont want to risk damaging them. The window surrounds will then be matching matte but in black, and I will give the windows a slight tint too.

Going for a kinda mono look and want to make the car stand out a bit without going O.T.T

So i did the rest of the lower strips today. I never noticed before that two of them were warped. Probably due to a careless removal at some point. Anyway now with them black you can see the deformations clearly :-(

I have however decided that I do like the black so I will be ordering a new shadowline set from BMW.

Brace yourself when you receive that quote. I would at least try get the upper section, not the window trim, from a scrap yard.

Lol I have an idea what I am in for thanks to ETK :) will see if I can negotiate a discount since the E65 parts are slow moving anyway.
