Chipped windscreen help

Gents,

Driving to Langebaan this weekend when a stone flew up from a passing bakkie. The chip is about the size of a 20c coin with cracks no longer than 5mm.
The insurance is sending a guy out to assess/repair - is there any particular process/equipment I should look out for or demand? Never had a windscreen chipped before.
Car is a e90 with auto wipers/lights so a new screen is expensive.

Much appreciated.

Depending on your policy they should replace it either excess free or minimal excess. With my policy it's a R500 excess or excess free if I opt for Grandmark windscreens. I always opted for genuine Shatterprufe. Replaced my windscreen 3 times since I got my car without issues. In my case the cost between replacing and fixing small chips isn't that big so I always replace. You shouldn't have any hassles going through a reputable glass fitment center. Just make sure that if you have rain sensors that they order a windscreen with a sensor. Given the size of the chip and the fact that it's cracking, they should replace it. The cracks will probably spread over the next few days depending on how deep they are. I had a small crack on my windscreen once about 10mm long in the bottom corner that eventually spread right across my windscreen within a few days.

Its going to be the assesors call.

If it can be repaired they will only repair and not replace the windscreen

Thanks guys.

The crack grew to about 5cm now, so it will be replaced.
I read something that if the chip/crack is in the wiper sweep area (and mine is) then the car is deemed un-roadworthy. True?
