Car is 2008 e90 320i man on 150k. Cover off at 2pm on a Friday. On the drive home lots of magic smoke began its escape from the bonnet. So I went straight to the garage to investigate.
Tappet cover off and voila. A section of seal all minced up.
Is this damage from over tightening or just a manufacturing defect? Can one really over tighten a tappet cover to squash the seal so?
On the plus side, the engine is pretty clean for 150k.
