It's a great idea, but there's always issues with this sort of thing.
Even with 2000 members, not even half of them will support it.
I don't know if it's just me, but I don't feel comfortable giving xxx amount to any charity. We are very involved with our church and do a lot of charity work, so we see a lot of people in need and we also see what they tend to with the money they get.
I'm not saying we should not try and help, but by just giving money is not always the answer. Like bmtroubleyou said, they need food. Find out exactly what they need & let the community pool together and get the necessary funds. Buy what they need and make sure thats exactly what they need and thus make sure the money is administrated as intended.
Something else I'd like to add to help the cause. We are fortunate enough to have a few franchises like PnP, woolworths etc. that also supports these charities. They use most of their end of life products to make some dishes they sell, but a lot of this stuff also goes to waste. So they said the would much rather support the charities this way and give them all their products that they can't make use of. This way Woolworths give some very lekker food to some of these places and so does some of the other franchises, even if it's just bread.
Remember, beggers can't be choosers.
I'll give my R20 odd bucks monthly or a once of payment (R240 p/y) to help, but like I said, I want to see where my contribution helps.
