In the process of buying an X3 2.0d, the B47T, my car is the N47T, I must be honest the X feels quite a bit slower than the 5, despite 20nm increase, is my assessment right in that regard? I must say on the test drive the ride felt super smooth and quiet which I prefer. Can I assume that the fuel consumption will be roughly in the same ballpark, or will it be 'heavy' compared to what I'm used to now, currently low 5s highway, and high 8s heavy city traffic. The X has some neat features, well for me at least, Hill Descent, electric towbar which is cool, electric tailgate thingie.
major downside is the bog standard sound system.

Due to the x3 being higher off the ground, and not as aerodynamic as the 5 series you wont get low 5's on the highway unfortunately. You can expect 7.5 mixed and 6.5 driving highway.

my 5 didn't have stop/start and also not the drive modes. I'm gonna leave the stop/start active initially. Does anyone recommend Eco pro, or is it more of a gimmick?

The biggest cause of the increase in fuel consumption on the X models compared to sedans is the permanent 4 wheel drive system.

If that stop/start crap bugs you you can deactivate by way of the small button next to the start button, that's what I do.

My previous owner of my F25 X3 opted to leave out the USB, Sat Nav and bluetooth telephone options a major miss for me, not so much worried about the Sat Nav but the USB port to play my iPod through as well as telephone connectivity is a pain!

With that said I am over happy with the consumption on this car and the comfort, also she responds like a small rocket and ultra smooth :=):

Instead of the X3 (previous model, prior to the recently launched one), have you considered the X1 2.0d? Better consumption (especially on sdrive since not awd, hence lighter) and more nimble. Also, shape is current and can get a 2018 model with decent spec?

The x3 is a totally different vehicle to the 5er.

My 2013 x3 20d now on 244000km and drives like new. As a long distance cruiser it's every bit a match for the 5er. Yes you will not get less than around 5.8l/100km (that's the best I've had and consistently achieved Jhb To Dbn) but it's a relaxing car to drive and doesn't (IMHO) feel it's size on the road until you're in the twisties

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The X1 (and X4) is a bastardised Mini Countryman. A brand abomination!
That aside, it lacks space compared to the F30.

Please elaborate. How did you get to this conclusion.

An X1 is way more spacious as well than any F30 imo

Should have said boot space.
The X1 is 420l the 3 is 480l, no seats folded down.

I concede that the roof space in the interior may be more in the X1 which creates a feeling of spaciousness. Also, the rear seats can slide back, so you can squeeze more legroom than the 3.

But having driven both, I can say that the driving position, while having more headroom, feels more cramped in width in the X1 vs the 3.

Each to his own, but I find the lack of purity of having to basically drive a debadged Mini, the most off putting. At least the X3 and 3 are still pure bred BMWs. Yeah, othet companies do cross brand pollination all the time, but it is only fine (imo) if the car you drive is the donor car NOT the recipient car.

Having sat in the 3 and owning a x1 and e60, I disagree with the boot space, the x1 allows more height, the measurements are taken with the back board in place. Seating position does seem a little cramped but the height helps.

A buddy has the countryman and says the x1 is better and was looking for one, until he saw the f25 lci :smilebounce:

Update -

Changed my mind, not ready for the SUV game as yet.
Maybe gonna look to upgrade to an aftermarket LED headlight setup, i googled but not much luck, anyone has any advice or contacts I will appreciate that.
Also probably gonna install some tweeters in the door pillars, this should be easy as pie....
