Change of advertised price by dealer

Hi guys, I have responded on an advertised 2013 bmw from one of the local dealers which was placed on two different websites at the same price. I contacted them to confirm the price and organise a test drive. Got there, test driven it and signed an otp (option to purchase) to ensure that someone else does not buy it before me. The otp is apparently valid for a day. Went home, discussed with my wife and decided to take it. I phoned the salesman the next day to go ahead with the deal just to find out that they now apparently have another buyer on the vehicle. When I insist that they have to honour my otp he told me that they apparently made a mistake on the advertised price of R439 000 and that it was now R469 000 (R30 000 more).

Long story short, I spoke to the manager who placed the ads. He told me that it was a misprint that his finger must have slipped and pressed a 6 instead of a 3 and that I must just make peace with it because mistakes do happen (same mistake on both websites??). It is three days later and they still have not changed the price on the ads. I believe they have to sell it to me at the advertised price.

Anybody who can mabe give me advice on this please?

Thanks

No that sounds like Bullshit.

Didn't you even negotiate the price before signing? I've never bought a vehicle new or pre-owned for the advertised price, I always get a discount not an increase!!!

In my opinion if they have a signed offer to purchase they must honour it, as it is a legal document, same thing if you had signed then pulled out, but I'm no legal guy could be wrong. I think with a OTP on a new car that might have an additional optional extra on the car that you didn't order they would charge you extra, but that's only on new cars.

What car is it? Personally I wouldn't want to deal with such people and would take my business elsewhere. If its a 2013 model, I'm sure there might be other options around, or that will come up soon.
I was going to buy a pre owned 335 with 20000km but landed up buying a brand new one because I got a good deal, granted the pre owned had a couple more gizmos included that I wasn't really interested in. Maybe get a quote on a new model and see what's the difference in price might be worth your while to go new.
Otherwise get your wife or a friend to "buy" the car and see what price they ask for the car & Carte Blanche their asses

Good luck

Name and shame.they say a top is a legal and binging document on when signed by a manager.if it were the other way around they would hold you to it and charge you. Cancellation fee.take it further dealer principal and if no joy go to customer services at BmW

they do this often. i was looking at a car that was advertised as an m sport. got there and it wasn't an m sport, even though it was advertised as such on numerous web sites (autotrader, cars.co.za, bmw, etc). took it up with them, and it was sorry, mistakes do happen, get over it.

they get you there under false pretence some of the times. dont waste energy on it.

Thanks. I did try to negotiate but also know that it is a good price. It is a 520i M-sportspack with satnav etc. It is only a month old with 2500 km.

There is no such thing as a good price in the motor industry at the moment.

Business is terrible, and as such, everything is negotiable..

Well,

You can get a 1.5 year old 535d fully loaded for not much more then that.

If you take into account what you will loose in depreciation over the next few months, especially when you start getting to 30k or 40k on the clock...

I hear what you say. A 1.5 and 2 year old same model does not cost much less at this stage. Reason is that the facelift has just been released and they let the "old stock" go at a discounted price. This car is R625 000 new...
