Central locking remote problem

Hi guys

I have a 2004 2.5L z4 and my remote doesn't work. I was doen in Balito and it worked for two days and stopped working again. I think it my be a faulty door lock not being in the correct placement or that the key doesn't charge well.

Like I mentioned it worked for two days and without any change stopped working.

Annideas or articles on how the key works and what charges it?

Would appreciate the help as I feel like a idiot having to lock and unlock with the key every time.

The car did have a side impact that side and don't know what they fixed or how.

What happens if you use the interior button to lock/unlock - does it still work? If no, this should eliminate the key as your problem.

The inside button works perfectly. What i found also is some times when I unlock with the key it's turns the door lock too far and when I turn the ignition it takes down the roof.

Will post some photo's to explain better.

Does the possition of the door lock have anything to do with the remote on the key?

I have just had the same problem with my X5, all you need to do is re code the keys. I searched the Internet and found how to do mine, I am not sure if it is the same for your car but google it, you will find a solution.[/i]

I still can't get why it worked for two days Balito and then just stopped. Can it still just be programming?

I also was very surprised, both of my keys stopped working at the same time. Re coded them both, and they now work perfectly.

Mine did the same, worked on certain days then just stopped. I had my Car battery changed. I was told that the amps was messing with my programming. To date, no issue. So maybe have that checked.

on my new e46 the 1 key that it came with did not work, was locking the car manually with the key in the door each time, i did a bit of googling and came to this website, http://www.bmwgm5.com/key_recode.htm

i followed the instructions and it worked first time...at first the instructions seemed to simple to get the key working but it locks and opens remotely now...

i hope this helps for you...

Had the same problem with my e46. Just remember you have to reprogram all your keys at the same time.

Sounds to me like the battery inside the key is busy going, or like Morne, (SP33DY) said, reprogramming is needed.
Do you have a spare key?? If so, does it also do that with the other key??

There's a very slim chance of the battery dying. My keys are now 8 years old and the batteries are still going strong.
Maybe the locking mechanism on the door is playing up, but this will only be true if only one door is affected, if both doors have the same symptom, it might be the key.

I only have one key and I don't know if this helps but the car only has one key hole mechanism on the drivers side.

It had a small accident on that side also. The guys fixed the lock mechanism best they could. Does the lock have a influence on the remote?
