CATS?

Hi guys,

I need your help again please.

I want to know if my 1995 e36 has got cats or not? If it does, what will happen if i remove them? Is it advisable to remove them, or to replace them?

The reason I am asking is, because i get this weird metallic rattling sound between 2500 and 3000 rpms. It only does it when the car is hot and under load, like going up a hill or accelerating from low refs in a high gear.

I have searched alot and some suggested that it might be caused by
cats on their way out. It might also be heat shield vibrating against something or a loose baffle in the front exhaust silencer.

The car doesn't make the noise when its cold, when its just idling or when i rev it higher than 3000rpm before it shifts. Only when its warmed up and under load.

So I want to know if its got cats or not? And if i can remove it without having to do anything else like timing adjustments or something.

Thanks in advance

Your 1995 E36 will not have cats, as for the rest I'm not sure what could be causing the problem.:banghead:

What you complaining about...

That sound is the reason we buy m3's... just stick an M badge on it :hammerhead:

lol, thanks Nukleuz. But i hate it when people stick m badges on cars that is clearly not an m!! Hell i even saw an M badge on a citi golf!! lol.

I took the car to the mech, and he told me it might be very slight pinging, but can't really say for sure, since it only does it in that certain rev range:dunno:
Definately not vanos, since that was done about 10 months ago.
He suggested i bring it sometime for a scan on the computer and see if it might be a knock sensor, although again he says highly unlikely.
He even admitted that this is a tough one.
I will let you guys know what's up here.
