Hey there

What oil is your car running at the moment? Exact name and grade (10W60, 5W40 etc).

What is the mileage on the car?

How often do you service the car?

Which Castrol Edge? What grade?

Lemme know the answer to those and I will let you if it is suitable.

I had Castrol TWS in and after an oil change to Liqui Moly I would never go back to Castrol even if it is recommended by the stealers. (Free advertising for Liqui-Moly, Mike:))

Hi mike, just bought the car. dont know what oil is in it. the car has 200K in the clock but the sub assembly was changed on 108000km by a BMW dealer. i wanted to service this car but i have no idea of what oil to use. i have only used castrol edge the fully senthetic one on all my other cars. thats the reason for me asking.

Hi there Kish

I would not recommend a fully synthetic for your M.

With the mileage she has and not knowing what oil she is currently running it will do more harm changing to a fully synthetic a this point in the life of the engine. If a car using a fully synthetic from its first service till its death then that is perfect.

According to various guides the car can use a fully synthetic but I would rather recommend out BMW approved, BMW designed engine oil. Our Top Tec 4100 5W40.

Price for 7 Litre (Engine Oil Capacity): R562.19 Incl. VAT

This is a hydrocracked oil. Essentially meaning it is only just one down from a fully synthetic. It is a longlife oil and will have a service life of 25 000km in your engine. We have a variety of people on this forum using this oil and the results have spoken for themselves.

Some more info:

http://www.liqui-moly.de/liquimoly/produktdb.nsf/id/e_3700.html

This oil has the same spec as a fully synthetic but is literally half the price.

I hope this helps.

P.S - I am glad you are happy with the product. It seems you are not alone.:thumbsup:

Hi James

Did you not get my reply?

I replied to your PM with the exact details. :dunno:

You can also use our Top Tec 4100 5W40 and in total 10 Litres will cost you: R771.90 Incl. VAT

I hope this helps.

OMW.....PLEASE DO LOTS OF RESEARCH and dont read forums and make up your mind , rather ask what people are using instead of dealing with dealers that no fug all about M3s !!!!

On the E36 M3 a fully sythentic oil is a must !!!!

Tried and tested all over the world , from normal driving down to race conditions , MOBIL1 , works the BEST with no VANOS issues !!!

This OIL is so trusted that i even know mates that run GAS in their M3s and have had no issues whatsoever till date.

Both my Ms have it and my E36 is far from stock. Under racing conditions the Oil Temp goes to a max of 100deg , it has never went past it ever. That alone will tell you alot about MOBIL1.
