Hi guys. I need some advise. I know I ask stupid questions. About a month ago a mech done a oil service on my E90 320d. From last week the yellow oil light kept coming on. I ignored it for some time. On sunday it came on again so I decided to check the oil. The dip stick was almost empty. I got scared so I went and found the only spare shop open. I asked for oil for my car. He recommended the castrol edge sport 10w 60 fully syntethic. So I bought it and threw abt 2 litres in the car. The engine sounds more smoother and silent now. But I was reading on this oil and apparently its not reccomended for my car. Will it cause damage. I intend to change the oil in abt 10 000km. I want to do another oil service but with a diff mech. I need to know if its safe to leave this oil in the car till then. Also before I could put oil the car was smoking a lot. But it never smoked before the oil service. I think that mech used fong kong oil.

AFAIK, this viscosity rating is meant for the ///M but I have used this oil for many years and never had an issue on both my E46 and E90 330i. It will definitely take longer to get the motor up to normal operating temperature and reduce the oil consumption somewhat.

As for using this on the a diesel motor, I can't comment.

If im not mistaken but i do not have a Dipstick on my car for oil. :fencelook: E90 320d

I always buy my own oil and tell the guy servicing my car to use that oil . and the car uses 5 liters including the the oil filter.

i only use a CF specced oil, with a LL04 BMW Approval. Liqui Moly Top Tec 4100 5W40

Never had a Issue

I suggest you replace the oil with something else.

I've been using the castrol edge sport 10w60 on my X3 2.0 d for 100000km now, the car has done 220 000km to date and no issues. Also still running the same turbo from new. Hope that helps

Dam ok. So the oil is good. But I feel like its thicker or something. As it revs up a little slower. My car just feels slower. But thanks. But gonna get liqui molly asap.

Are you certain that the max oil level wasn't exceeded?

If your oil level is too high you won't know about it, indication wise. And it's BAD. Even if you see smoke it doesn't consume as much as you think. Depending how long you drove like that as well.

Anyway my experience with the oil has also been good. Used it before in my M3 before switching to LM's equivalent.

It's not as good as liqui moly but that's like saying one supermodel isn't as pretty as another.

Both good products.
