Is it necessary to install a Car Tracking Device seeing that sometimes (if not most of the time) the Stupid Device is not working...Has anyone ever been in any situation where a car was stolen and could or couldn't be Tracked.
I had Tracker on my Polo but I am not sure if i need it on the Beemer.

Just asking!!!!!

Isn't it a requirement to have a tracking device on your vehicle for insurance purposes?

I know a few big general insurance companies will cover/compensate some of the monthly premium. And I'm pretty sure they will work unless is somewhere they can't get the signal or the device has been remove from the car itself.

I don't believe in trackers. If your car is stolen by the time you realize its gone & report it, the tracker is already disabled. Personally I really don't want the car back once its been stolen...

looooool @ dont want it back.

Yah apparently Insurances cant cover stolen vehicle if it doesn't have a Tracker but i once read a story of someone saying on his 2 cars, tracker never worked and they were both stolen and never recovered.

I had that Quarrel with my insurance company and i refuse to put in a tracker system. I told him what they can do with their tracker system and where they can install it.

At the end of the day They will pay out if its stolen and secondly they do not bother me with a tracker system anymore. I do not pay more because of this. You have rights 2. If you do not want it do not install it.

If they refuse get another insurer.

+1 Resale on a stolen and recovered car is crap.
Also Many hijackers take you with so you can show them where the tracker is located. I think its safer not to have it

+1. My insurance didn't require me to install a tracker, and even if i did install one my premium only drops by about R100.

If they steal it they can have it. I wouldn't want it back either.

Tracker does self tests on the tracker units every six months, you then get an sms to let you know if the device is working or not or you can go to any tracker self test site to test the device yourself.

I was a Tracker installer a few years back and can tell you that the car thief would park the vehicle in the bottom level of an underground parking lot in jhb cbd where the signal cannot reach ground level where the tracker recovery teams were. They have all the time in the world to remove the device...
Also another technique criminals use is to strip the interior while they are still driving the vehicle to an isolated location. A tracking unit is only as good as the installer fitting it, I have seen some terrible installs in my time.
I had a netstar unit in my first 316i which failed while I was busy with a driving lesson, netstar cut into the fuel pump wiring so they can remotely kill the car, only after a weekend of fault finding did I figure out that it was the netstar unit that caused the car to cut out.

Hi guys, I work for a tracking company, so here is some feedback,
firstly not all cars are required to have it but insurances will want to offer it to you as this will save pay out when stolen, its a risk factor, however on other models with a higher price it is a requirement and you then have to fit a tracking device,

I do agree the discount on premium is not worth he premium of the tracking device,

however here is something to consider, we do not market to track stolen cars as yes if car is stolen who wants it back, we market saving lives, as that is what is important, what if you hijacked how do you notify someone, tracking devices has early warnings, not all but some,

lastly not all trackers are the same, people refer to it as tracker but actually with another provider, I know we have a very good recovery rate,

its all about choice

Hey guys,

We had two vehicles stolen that had a tracker installed & both were not recovered. Despite this, i still believe that every vehicle should have a tracker installed.

The panic button, if you get a chance to hit it, may save your life if you are "taken". & thats if the unit is working.:fencelook:
