Car selection advice needed

Hey all

I was wondering what your thoughts are on something I'm considering. I have a 120d that I'm kinda attached to. In the near to medium future there is a possibility that I may get a company car, allowing me to use my 120d as a possible weekend car.

I'm looking at upgrading components on it so I can it can perform better on the track and the skid pan. I have a pretty good idea on the components I'm gonna use.

What I want to know, is this a good route to go. Or Is it worthwhile selling the 120d, and getting an older BMW (Such as an e46 330i)?

Any advice will be appreciated.

yeah, or get an M3 ? E36,E46.. quite a nice track car right there..

Although I do know you can get nice torque out of the diesels when tuned correctly :)

6 cylinders is always better.:)

I agree... Or at least a 6 cylinder petrol. Sounds awesome. :excited:

Well actually an e46 M3 CSL is one of my dream cars. But lets be honest, I'm not going to get that as a replacement for my 2005 120d...

Perhaps an early e46 M3 might do? Not sure of pricing...

Thanks for the input guys

Keep the advice coming, fellow fanatics. :)

They are ALL priced well...

I would personally have the SMG, though not sure about the Imola red interior...:mmm:

Thanks for the comments badaz87...

Unfortunately they are all out of my price range. Seeing as though a dealer was going to give me R116K for my 120d. :bawling: Going to have to have a proper look and rethink things...

Hey applehero, the stealers always seem to be out to make a quick buck, but don't despair, there are some budget thrills to be had out there, just take a gander at these:

2001 BMW 330i Auto

BMW 325CI COUPE AUTOMATIC Full service history

BMW 330i Blue with Sunroof........well looked after

BMW 540i E39 Touring (Get THIS One!)
http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Car...-R35K-BMW-540i-E39-Touring-W0QQAdIdZ170719331

bmw e 46 330ci convertible(If you like open-top motoring)
http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Car...bmw-e-46-330ci-convertible-W0QQAdIdZ196184719

These are all available for under the 116K the stealer is offering.
Personally, I would get the 540i touring... at 85K, its a budget monster of a sleeper...:sneaky::bat:

I love that shape 540i! I have a feeling the guy's correct about being one of only 3 in SA. Considering I don't ever recall seeing a E39 Touring in SA, let alone the 540i> Pity bout the touring version... :mmm: (Sorry Spy007)

Thanks for the search. :) A decent 330i seems to be sitting well with me... :excited:

The "carbon black" M3 seems clean, I wouldn't mind, if I had the cash, to get that as a second car....but alas, the finances won't allow!:bawling:

Also try looking for an e39 M5...

The 540 is a great start for modding due to the V8.. that said the e46 330 is also an awesome car and there are a number of bolt on kits available for it to get stratospheric power levels

Love the look of the e39, especially the M5. I've heard from a few sources that they can be rather maintenance intensive. But the idea of the V8 540i seems awesome... One day, when the right one comes along.

And the e46 330i always is a good bet...
