Car saying service due one month after service

My car was serviced by BMW Menlyn about a month ago after the service indicator went on. The car didn't reach the required km's for the next service, it was a 2-year service (the car's odometer stood on 47,000km, service was due at 50,000km). After I got it back it said the next service was due in 20,000km, which to me seemed normal. However, last week the service indicator went on again saying it needs to be serviced within the next 1400km.

I've just been to BMW Menlyn and they assured me this is normal. It's just the front brakes that needs to be replaced, and according to the service advisor even if they did check the font brakes at the previous service they wouldn't have been allowed to replace it under motorplan as the car's computer didn't say it was due.

My question is if this is how it works under the motorplan now? It's a big inconvenience to take my car in to be serviced again (even if it's a Formula 1 style service). I think it's ridiculous that the front brakes wasn't replaced as they would have been very close to worn out - I've only done about 2500km since the service.

Might just be something small that has come up again, same happened to me. My break fluid needed replacement after a service was done 2 months before, silly! :yuck:

On the newer models, certain items are completely independent of the service. Previously, everything was rolled up into Inspection I, II, etc. However, even though those still exist, certain items (e.g. brake fluid, brakes, etc) use their own schedule - silly yes, as you can have it pop up one month after a "proper" service. Also makes you wonder what BMW actually check or rather don't check when you car goes in for a service.

What happens is that BMW reads the car, it says XYZ need to be serviced and Motorplan authorises it.

Even if they can physically see the Pads/Discs are buggered they wont get authorization from Motorplan to replace them (unless faulty) until the car states they need doing.

What the dealer should have told you is that they are close to needing a change and the car might warn you in a few months.

Hi,

I have also had this issue with Sandton auto, took the car in December for major service and brakes, I was told everything was done. I reach Durban and a few friends tell me that my discs need replacing, so i was like they just replaced them but they were actually skimmed not replaced as they had told me.

So now I must take my car back there to have them replaced, I make a noise at the service manager and he tells me that if they are not authorized to change any parts they cannot change them but surely this is ridiculous? I mean those discs arent even smooth, completely uneven and I am no mechanic and had I not been told they weren't replaced I would not have known.

This is the reason why people like me have MP so we can have professionals maintain the car so that its at 110% constantly but seems its more a business now than being concerned about customers safety, I'm not very impressed:thumbdo:

I am actually waiting for MP to come to an end at least then i will know what im paying for and putting into my car, What's the point having a MP when parts are being refurbished rather than replaced???

I love my car but not too happy with BMW service overall!

Thanks for the replies everyone, I guess it makes sense from BMW's point of view. They must be saving quite a bit of money, but the downside is that they're annoying their customers. I checked the print-out the guys at BMW gave me which they got from the key, the car will need to go back in another 8000km for something else. :argh:

Wow that's crazy, I would think that if a part is obviously defective/worn-out they would have to replace it under the MP!
