Car covers

Can anyone shed some light on the issue of car covers?
What to look out for? Good vs bad products?
Where to get a decent one?

What purpose will the cover serve?
Is it dust protection or sunlight or rain?

The ones at Makro for R500 are not ideal if your aim is to protect the car from the elements as it has a thin fleece undercover and is affected by the sun.

I would be interested to hear of any feedback as I require to replace one of the MAKRO covers which are falling apart

I bought two blue nylon car covers from Autozone & its rubbish. Water & dust seeps through, they rip/tear easily oh and the elastic is useless, slight wind and the cover will fall off or fly away...

Car covers cause more damage than good
The dust settles on the car and wind gets underneath the cover to cause some serious damage to the paint. Even condensation caused issues

The best car cover Iv ever seem is a car pyjama but they not cheap
The inside lining is made from microfiber and allows the car to "breath" and stops wind from getting under the cover

I agree with Lambchop, Makro ones are def no good. They leave micro scratches on the surface. And for a proper one with microfiber lining is going to cost you more than a couple of washes a month!

No matter how good the cover is it'll scratch unless you wash the car before every use. Even then, wind can still cause havoc.

If dust is a concern, it actually does your car more good to gather dust and get a nice wash often, then to use one of these.

As said it does cause scratches and damage to the paint.

I had one, and used to use it on my Sabre, the car was not my daily drive and was not used often. I only put it on after a good wash, car dust free, tied it on tightly so the wind could not lift it and move it about.

You get those inflatable "tents" for cars and bikes :dunno:

Not sure of prices or where to get them though. But agreed, no car cover can be good for your car. You get the thin nylon ones which tear far too easily, and the thick Makro ones which, as mentioned before, have a fleece-ish underlayer which scratch the car, and the cover is weakened by the sun and the top layer then starts to harden and peel off.

I'm glad I searched for this - I wanted to buy a cover for my E46 but now I will just pay R80 every week or two for a good clean inside and out :)

So i had a car cover, (still have it in my garage lol)

Works great for those hot sunny days, and thats about it!!

If the car stands for too long the car collects fine dust because the cover is porous almost
If its windy it can fly off!! Trust me.
They tear easily
When it rains its a nightmare as the dust collected together with water can cause scratches.
Try putting the cover on, on a windy day both yourself and the cover will fly away

In my honest opinion i would never buy one again.

Get a carport
