Cannot get Dealers Comments

Morning Guys, looking for some help. Was looking at a 2009 BMW 325i. Had some comments from Alberante BMW Repair Shop. Phoned them but they won't tell what was repaired unless the dealer/owner requests it. Lovely car, but I would like to know what was repaired. Anyone has some contacts?

Vin number is WBAPH16000NG37543

Alternatively, get the seller to get it for you.

If they are reluctant to give it to you, walk away.

I hope you manage to see the comments!

Personal experience :

I was told that the car my dad was buying, for me, was in an accident. They had to repair the backlights so they installed the Black Line lights for me - This is a 2013 F20 m135i.It had 6000km on the clock.

I went to go see what the car was worth last week and they told me the car was in a R130,000 (Yes) accident. You could imagine the shock, even more so when they told me they can only give me R180,000 for the car.

EDIT (The R130,000 damage wasn't even repaired by an ARC. It was done by Orbit (?) So I'l have to go to them to go figure out what happened.)

Before we purchased the car, I was on the phone with a friend that said I should take a picture of the VIN number to see what specs the car had. The BMW dealership staff heard me and increased the price of the car by R10,000.

I didn't land up taking the picture and landed up taking a huge punch now.

Sorry for the long story, I just don't want anyone to be in my position. I fully agree with tman :D

Hi Hummy, that is a terrible experience and OMG R130k damage is steep. Thankfully I had some joy in getting some info, it was about a R20k damage in 2010 when the the car was 1 year old. Nothing serious. Had a look at it myself and just for peace of mind I sent it for an AA Dekra Inspection as well. It came back clean. Picking it up tomorrow

Seems like a 'normal' sales tactic nowadays to say the car was in a small 'bumper bashing' to cover themselves. Some have also decided that R100K is 'not a big comment'... Yes bumpers and some of the electronics are expensive if damaged, but given how well bumpers can be repaired these days, as well as availability of used spares (which get fitted to your car regardless of what is billed by the panel shop in the end), R100K is actually a lot more than a 'bumper bashing'. There is another thread from a week or so ago where a 'pothole' resulted in bodywork and lights being damaged but no rim repair or replacement LOL. If that was really the case then they would gladly show you the report to close the sale.

With the way these cars are designed to absorb impacts these days and partially deform certain areas of the structure, I would worry about one of them being repaired privately as 'minor damage' when there are actually other structural elements that need to be straightened or replaced.

There are a few M5s for sale that have been sitting for over 6 months at super low prices because they have been visibly repaired poorly, some seemingly in back yards but have no comments on their plans. Helped a few guys look at cars over the years and no matter the brand, when there is noticeable spraywork it is always 'just' stone chips or a bumper etc. The previous buyer is hit on trade-in by the comments and the future buyer is robbed again on initial price and future trade in. Surely there is some recourse via ombudsman or BMW SA?

R130K damage not repaired by an ARC would lead me to walk away immediately. Spraying a bumper or skirt, replacing an underbody cover or repairing a rim is one thing. This is something else entirely.

I am so glad you managed to get it all sorted! :D It's a beautiful colour and wish only the best going forward for you! I have not seen that colour on a BMW in CPT? Flipping awesome! :praise::clapper:

@Llew
I could not have said it any better. When I went to BMW (I don't know if we can mention which one) they helped me out so much! They showed me all the paint defects on in the boot lid and surroundings. This was another dealership from which my dad purchased the car.

What you said about the structural damage is very very true, I never thought about that. My dad said that he was informed that the car was in an accident, but on the day only told about the tail lights? I remember everything since I am the primary driver, it's my little baby haha.

I have checked through all the post-sale paper work, nothing stipulates that damage was done to the vehicle. I only found out about this when I went to go sell the car.

Should I have taken the VIN number and done something with it? Probably. But as you said, how many people get suckered into buying a BMW that has a nasty history. It isn;t personal, but it sucks.

BMW make amazing cars and a situation like this will not make me change car brands. I will, however, inform everyone of what has happened to me, so when someones parent goes to buy their child a new/used car, they do not get into a very uncomfortable situation.
