Can a 320i E90 diff be repaired?

Hi guys
Hope somebody can help me, I want to find out if a 320i E90 automatic's DIFF can be repaired, or must it be replaced?

The reason for me asking, my car had a strange 'drivetrain' noise, I took it to a independent BMW workshop, they found the noise is coming from the diff, so I told them to repair or replace, which ever they think is the best.
Now I'm in week 10, waiting for my car, the part for my diff must come from Europe or somewhere, nearly 3 months I'm without my car now.

I've heard a roumar that the diff's cannot be repaired, it must be replaced, so I'm not sure for what part they are waiting for?
I've got a RMI warranty on the car, a very good one, they approved about R13000.00 for the repair or replacement of the diff, and as I heard, there are a few second hand ones available in Cape Town.

Please help, does anyone have some advice for me please?

Hi there, sad to hear that. Don't give up and just replace, phone some local diff & gearbox workshops near you and find out. My local mechanic told me its a sealed unit, as I wanted to give it some "elbow grease" on a previous service. Did you run a test for error codes or get a 2nd opinion?

my diff was replaced by bmw,according to them they say its a sealed unit,and costs less to replace,and it was covered under m/p

would be interesting to see if it can be fixed instead of replaced

I replaced my diff. The diff is not worth fixing. Just get them to get a new one if you can

BMW will supply a remanufactured unit.
You cannot repair the diff here as there are no parts available for it.

Hi guys
Got good news yesterday that my diff's parts (bearings) arrived from Europe or Germany, not sure.
Will get my baby back within a week, will let you guys know if everything is right, and maybe after all, the diff can be repaired.

Got my car back on Friday, everything is quite and 100%. So, the diff can be repaired lol.
