Not sure if this the right place to post this but really need some advice, I’m looking at buying a 2007 BMW 320i low mileage but not sure about maintenance.

Any advice will be great

Are you a first time BMW buyer? Maintenance isn't any more or less expensive than the average 4 cyl car.

Best advice is to get a 320d. Much nicer car allround.

Better power, not expensive to maintain, very light on fuel (super light even when comparing it to a 320i), and they're not unreliable like the older 320d's.

A 2007 model 320d should be the 130kw version.

The 320d is the best value for money BMW on the market.

They are not troublesome cars even with high mileage on them.

Best thing to do is take the VIN Number and get the report from BMW to see what was changed etc (if any)

The point Im about to dive into has been covered on this forum a few times with very different views.

Power of a E90 320i, Its not the fastest thing out there but also not the slowest out there either. The car is well balanced with decent fuel consumption. YES it is a bit slow when trying to overtake uphill (2nd gear pulls) but one has to remember its a nice family sedan and not a power house. On the open road the car goes very nicely with decent overtaking power.

My advise is to drive the car and see how it feels. Steptronic is a bit slower than manual but the joys of driving a steptronic is where the difference comes into play. My advise is to take a Manual if possible the pull aways are a tad faster.

Expect to be doing around 11l/100km and getting around 500km out of a tank of fuel with mixed driving

All in all , you are looking at a car that comes with airbags , lots of boot space and a nice family car all round. Dont be fooled by the term family car , the MSport is quiet a looker in a E90 320i.

At the Reef Turbo Vehicles are often chosen cause of the torque it delivers , for the 320i at the coast one will be amazed of how quick it is compared to the Reef. So keep this in mind when purchasing.

Lots of guys will always say choose the E90 320d. Yes its a brillant car but if out of motorplan , one has to look at the associated risks that goes with it as well as the maintenance costs. Its really personal choice when choosing between the E90 320i and E90 320d. Some love the sound of the Diesel whilst others cant stand it.

Maintenance on a E90 320i is the basic motor oil change with brake pads. Brake pads will cost in the region of 2k fitted all round whilst motor oil is around R800. Service intervals are quiet far apart and also based on driving style.

Hope this helps

try test drive a few 320i and 320d and then decide what you need . Both are good for their market group .The 320i was not designed for TLGP , but is a nice cruiser . Good Luck .

I would look at the larger I6 engines if going for petrol, but 320d is a massive winner in general! Running costs is much the same for the petrol engine models, not sure about the diesels, but cannot think that it would be that different. Fuel consumption on the 320d is again, the winner, but the larger I6 engines are actually pretty good compared to the 320i for that matter - check my Fuelly signature...

Thanks guys , just trying to help out where I can , afterall its the same machines we all love.

@ Vikz , hope you came right with the car , be sure to post some pics when you get her. Like all Beemers , You will fall in love with it.

For interest sake , Im in a E90 320i (steptronic) today (loan from BM) , Honestly the car is well balanced and really comfortable to a old driver like me , should be the same to the new drivers IMO. There is ample everything in the car and this coming from a person that drives a powerhouse daily. I still say dont be fooled by the badges. The E90 has proven to be a all round winner irrespective of whats under the hood.
