Business CD player

Hi guys

Does the business CD player in the e46 display CD text?

I noticed yesterday when i was listening to Highveld that it showed the song title and Artist.

But i can't seem to get the CD player to show text?

I have the mp3 player.

Certian of the late business headunits did support CD Text, the earlier ones did not, but the stuff you are seeing from the radio's is being transmitted through RDS, and all headunits since the 90's can do RDS

It was the first time i saw the actual song name and artist VIA RDS. and it's only on highveld.

I was just thinking if it can show me that then surely CD text can work as well?

Nope, not exactly.

The CD circuits and lazers need to have the correct firmware to be able to read the binary of the CD text, process it, and interact with the LCD controller, the sources of the information comes from two differant controllers, RDS is from the FM circuitry.

THe LCD controller can handle the text no problem, but the CD may not have the required bits to pass the information on.

However what is interesting is that you can play MP3's, so I would say that CD text is an option on yours.

I've seen in on Jacaranda as well about 2 weeks ago.

My golf also doesn't show the cd text but shows this from the stations.

what about CD shutlle's on 2005 models playing MP3 disks?

according to wikipedia.

Tried mine and it doesn't.
