Burst Run flats

Hi all. Not sure if any one has experienced a busted run flat. Well I have! I got Good Year RFT on my F30 and yesterday I had a blow out. Luckily it was the rear Tyre. Thanks to BMW I had to get a tow truck to get home as I couldn't drive the vehicle. Well today I need to buy another Tyre. If any one has a good spare RFT, please let me know. It must be 225.45.18. Or call me on 0822 696 016. Thanks Daniel

First off at least you are safe, it could have ended badly..

But then, I am assuming the sidewall burst.. I have had nothing but sidewall bubbles on goodyear before, dreadful tire.. I actually have an old 225/45/18 Goodyear runflat at the family home in the garage off my old F30, but I would not even give that tire to anyone as I do not trust it.

If you can.. Get 2 better RFTs to start with..

some observations and advice:

1) RFT's don't just burst, the sidewalls are extra re-inforced thus enabling you to continue your drive in the event that a tyre looses total air pressure

However

If a RFT has been run with no air pressure (as it is designed to) the heat build up and degredation of the sidewall is significant, thus once you have had to rely on the RFT technology to get you "out of trouble", the RFT is for all intense purposes now a "throw away item".
I hope that this is not the case in your situation !!
Never re-use a RFT that has been run without any air pressure.

But

If there has been no history of the RFT having been run in its RFT "mode" (i.e. No Air pressure), then it would be considered a manufactring fault ..(rare but does happen)
In the manufactur fault version, and being that you drive an F30, I would presume that you are still on Motorplan...thus...take it to the dealers ASAP

The dealers have been known to have stock of RFT's, and in many cases as reported by fellow fanatics, at a price better than any normal tyre stockist could supply it at to you.
If the RFT has a manufactur fault, not only will you be compensated for the replacement trye from the tyre manufacturer, the BMW motorplan will also take care, as it is not normal waer and tear, but a genuine manufacture fault, on a part supplied to you by BMW.
