Brake Disk/Pad advice

Guys,

I need to replace disk and pads on my e90. I made a huge mistake a few months back and i was stuck and needed to change the pads urgently. The only ones i could get on short notice was Sureline or Safeline from Goldwagen. They wernt cheap and they wernt expensive either. I think it was on special for R700 a set.

Long story short. The car lost alot of braking power. The brake pedal had to be pushed in further than normal.
Lets just say the one night i was pushing the car really hard and aggressive braking for a short period and it looked as if the disk was going to catch alight.

Now im sitting with slightly damaged disks. a bad shudder on braking around 120km/h and i need to do disk and pad change.

ATE/Ferodo disks are not badly priced. For another 3k extra i can go with Power Brake. Are there any other alternatives to drilled/slotted disks?

Oh and PS.....Dont ever by those pads.....Its really that bad.

I found the safeline pads to be good, but very soft - I also experienced the brake fade after pushing the car a bit...

I reckon on a std car, they would work fine if one doesnt drive to aggressively, although on a car with a turbo, be it diesel or the likes - I wouldnt opt for them.

If i were you, I would steer clear of ferodo and go for ATE...safer bet.

Karsh you won't go wrong with Powerbrake or Textar which is OEM quality :coolShake:

Stay away from ATE and Ferrodo, they won't do well on your beast :skit:

I had the GT4 series (iirc) front discs and GT pads! Pads lasted 25 000km and discs, well they still on the car on the second set of GT pads.

I paid R3 200 for the discs and pads and bought the wear sensors from BMW. A few years ago though so expect some increase.

Most likely that the pad transferred unevenly on the disk, thus causing the vibration.

The pads you chose depend on the type of driving you currently do, and to be honest, most people don't push their stock brakes hard enough to cause brake fade, if the stockers were good enough before, no need to spend more for something you won't need.

Also remember that depending on the compounds, uprated pads can wear disks severely if not up to temp, squeal like a wounded pig, not work well in cold temps etc.

So, how and where do you drive.

I would also suggest that you get the dics skimmed to get rid of the shudder if you want to keep using them and replace pads only.

The car was mainly used as a daily until recently.
I take the car for some joy rides every 2 weeks or so. Mainly top end runs.

This issue of mine happened when i had to suddenly brake from around 240km/h. The disks were glowing red.

The disks were never changed on the car so i might as well replace while i am at it :coolShake:
